In Business and Personal Laws, we learn specific laws and a general view of the business world. For instance, we learn six different types of components to make a contract official, we learn when to sue people, what is considered to be a felony or a misdemeanor, and so on and so forth. For this assignment, the students were to answer certain questions and list the requirements for trademarks, copyrights, and patents. We were able to explore what kind of items were trademarked, patented, and copyrighted such as the logo for apple, the movie called superman, and a personally invented item. A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol, and/or design that identifies and distinguished the source of the goods of one party from those of others. A patent is a limited duration property right relating to an invention, granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office in exchange for public disclosure of the invention. A copyright protects works of authorship, such as writings, music, and works of art that have been tangibly expressed. The questions or the topics are outlined as the headings. Afterwards, I have either answered the questions or listed the items related to the topic.
This helped me view the business world in a much wider spectrum because I saw business as only a general idea, however, I realized there were certain laws you have to follow in order to copyright, patent, or trademark an item. In one of the famous shows called, "Shark Tank," entrepreneurs present themselves and their items or ideas to ask for an investment in return for apart of their equity. After learning about trademarks, copyrights, and patents, I realized the tremendous amount of effort and time those entrepreneurs inputted just to obtain their personal achievements.
There are different types of applications in order to put a patent on your item. Let me explain to you. When you decide to apply for a patent, you have to decide what kind of application you want to submit. You can choose either a provisional or non-provisional. In a provisional application, the USPTO will send you an application date, but will not begin the exmaination process, in which the USPTO makes sure your application fulfills all of the requirements. With a non-provisional application, the examination process is already begun. A non-provisional application must be completed before twelve months after the filing date of the provisional application. It must be clear the idea in the non-provisional application is the same as the one in the provisional. Before learning about these different types of rights, I thought I could have taken people's logos and printed them on a shirt or even built the same item to sell for my own benefit. However, disobeying such rights could lead me to thousands of dollars of charges and even a long period of prison time.

This assignment is one of the easiest assignments that students complete to built their foundation of the chapter before they enter into the whole new adventurous lesson. We are assigned to list all the vocabulary key terms and the academic key terms. Afterwards, we define the words from the glossary in the back of the book and give each academic vocabulary a sentence. For example I will list the Chapter 7 Section 1 key terms. "Uniform Commercial Code - A collection of laws that governs various types of business transactions." Since that wasn't an academic vocabulary, I didn't give it a sentence. Once I list and define all the key terms and the academic vocabularies, I am set to read the book without having to look back or going to a dictionary to look for the definitions. This assignment keeps me productive and efficient.
Through this assignment, I've gained a lot of knowledge not just by defining but also by using my own words to create a grammatically correct sentences. I have learned to use specific business terms not just in the business world but also in my own personal world. This assignment gave me the courage to cultivate better sentences by using many varieties of words that sound intelligent and straightforward.
Because majority of the terms here are something I haven't had the chance to look up or even face, I had a huge impact from this assignment. Although other people criticize either flashcards or key term listings like this, I still find these assignments extremely useful and beneficial. I believe this is one of the fastest ways for me to build and gain knowledge. Obviously the things that I now know that I did not know before completing this work are the vocabularies. It's a pretty straightforward assignment, so I don't think I need to explain further a due.
